The first step to becoming a fashion designer in Kentucky is attending one of two fashion design schools in Kentucky. The average cost of tuition in this state is $9,074 per semester, and the average scholarship award is $6,024. As a fashion design student and professional in Kentucky, you have the chance to be part of Waterfront Fashion Week,an annual fashion show held in Louisville, Kentucky.
Both Kentucky schools have Bachelor’s degree programs in fashion design, in addition to Master’s degree programs in fashion design. If you choose to earn your Bachelor’s degree, you can expect to spend about four years in school to complete 120 to 130 credits. Some of the courses you may have to take include Textiles and Apparel, Perspectives of Dress, and Basic Apparel Construction. A lot of your time may also be spent creating designs, sewing your designs, and testing them on models. At the end of your Bachelor’s program, you should have a design portfolio that you can use in your job search.
A Master’s degree is meant to expand upon what you learn in a Bachelor’s program. These 30-credit programs can usually be completed in two years if you are a full-time student. If you are a part-time student, you may spend three years in school.
